Role Summary
Aubay is seeking an experienced IT Business Analyst specialising in ETRM and LNG to join our client, a leading energy company. This role will be central to supporting their trading transformation initiatives by delivering strategic technology solutions that align with long-term business objectives. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with both commercial and IT teams to gather requirements, manage backlogs, and support application delivery aimed at enhancing trading, risk management, and operational efficiency. The position involves substantial travel to Doha, Qatar, requiring approximately 75% travel (up to 30 days at a time). Further details about the travel requirements will be provided during the interview process.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 9 years’ experience in commodities trading with major IOCs, NOCs, trading houses, or technology vendors, focusing on change, process improvement, and technology.
- Strong expertise in C/ETRM systems with proven experience designing and delivering solutions that optimise trading strategies, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency.
- Deep understanding of commodity markets, preferably LNG, including trading strategies, organisational structures, business processes, risk management, and associated technology platforms (C/ETRM, fleet management, market analytics).
- Comprehensive knowledge of the end-to-end trade lifecycle across commodities, shipping, and finance functions.
- Specialised experience in at least one domain such as Physical LNG Trading, Cargo Operations, Shipping, Derivative & Emissions Trading, Trading Risk & Finance, or Portfolio Optimisation.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking abilities, with the capacity to work effectively under uncertainty, own challenges, and make informed decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Experience managing product backlogs and maintaining comprehensive documentation for development teams.
- Passionate about technology as an enabler in commodities trading environments.
- Familiar with IT standards, architectural best practices, integration methods, and software development lifecycles.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and stakeholder influencing skills tailored for management, technical teams, and vendors.
- Proficient in workplace applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management/collaboration tools (MS Project, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Miro/Mural). Comfortable working with SQL and advanced Excel.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with C/ETRM platforms such as Openlink, TriplePoint, Allegro.
- Knowledge of Planlogic EOS, Veson Nautical IMOS, and SAP.
- Practical exposure to Agile frameworks, PMP or PRINCE2 certification.
- Postgraduate qualifications such as MSc, MBA, or PhD.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering the strategic vision for the trading transformation programme, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals and IT architecture.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across business and IT to elicit, elaborate, and validate requirements for efficient application solutions.
- Manage product backlogs and coordinate closely with technical teams to oversee development and implementation.
- Foster a collaborative environment bridging IT and commercial functions to deliver seamless solutions.
- Maintain a customer-first mindset, effectively communicating with diverse roles and seniority levels within the organisation.
- Support the assessment and management of business change impacts, helping business teams onboard and adopt new processes and systems.
- Provide expert technical support and services related to trading applications, coordinating with other ICT teams as needed.
