This role is critical in maintaining a secure, stable, and compliant IT environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, security teams, and infrastructure operations to plan, test, and deploy patches with minimal disruption.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Proven background in VMware vSphere/ESXi patching and upgrades.
  • Working knowledge of network device firmware patching (switches, routers, firewalls).
  • Proficiency with enterprise patch management tools such as SCCM/MECM, WSUS, Ansible, Ivanti, or BigFix.
  • Solid understanding of vulnerability management, CVEs, and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, CIS, NIST).
  • Experience partnering with Information Security or SOC teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset with composure under pressure during critical maintenance windows.
  • Excellent documentation, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Professional certifications such as Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Red Hat, VMware VCP, CCNA, or CompTIA Security+ are advantageous.
  • Prior experience working in large, global organisations with complex infrastructure environments.
  • Flexible approach, including willingness to work during off-hours or weekends as required for planned maintenance activities.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Patch Management
  • Lead end-to-end patching cycles for Windows Servers, Linux Servers, VMware ESXi, and network devices.
  • Evaluate, schedule, and deploy security and performance patches according to defined maintenance windows and business priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate security baselines and industry best practices.
  • Vulnerability Remediation
  • Work closely with Security (SOC / Vulnerability Management) teams to assess risk and prioritize remediation.
  • Validate and report patch compliance using available tools (SCCM, WSUS, Ansible, vSphere Update Manager, etc.).
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Partner with business teams to minimise downtime and effectively communicate planned maintenance.
  • Liaise with security and compliance functions to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patching processes, including exception handling and rollback procedures.
  • Automate patch deployment where possible to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Monitor post-patch infrastructure performance and resolve any arising issues.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, OS updates, and security advisories.
  • Recommend improvements to patch management processes and contribute to long-term infrastructure resilience and security strategy.
