Role Summary
Aubay UK are seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead complex, high-impact IT transformation programmes across our client’s Retail Finance portfolio. The role has end-to-end accountability for strategy, delivery, governance, and benefits realisation of multi-year initiatives. The Programme Manager will act as the primary interface between business partners, IT and Retail Finance executive leadership, ensuring technology delivery aligns with business objectives, customer needs and regulatory requirements. Please note: This is a hybrid role requiring onsite working three days per week at the client’s offices in the West Midlands.
Required Skills and Experience
• Programme or portfolio management certifications (MSP, MoP, Agile, SAFe, PMP, PRINCE2)
• 10+ years’ experience in IT programme and portfolio management, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles
• Proven delivery of major IT transformation programmes within Retail Banking or Consumer Finance
• Experience operating across multiple concurrent programmes with responsibility for appropriate technical and
architectural implementation
• Strong understanding of the UK retail market, lending technologies, credit lifecycle automation, digital customer
journeys and regulatory compliance (FCA, PRA, GDPR)
• Solid experience delivering change within highly regulated environments
• Executive-level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• Strong leadership and people management capability in complex, global environments
• Sound judgement and decision-making ability, including in high-pressure and crisis situations
• Strong programme and project management capability, including budget ownership and ROI assessment
• Ability to balance business priorities against technical “nice-to-have” solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to be hands-on when required
• Highly self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable
Desired Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field
• MBA or Master’s degree in Finance, Technology, or a related discipline
Key Role Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of large-scale IT transformation programmes (>£5m), including strategy, delivery,
governance, and benefits realisation
• Shape the technology roadmap in partnership with Technology, Risk, Data, Product, Digital, Marketing, and
Commercial teams
• Translate key business and partner needs into clearly defined initiatives across areas such as onboarding, repeat usage,
and credit decisioning
• Act as the primary interface between external business partners and internal IT and Retail Finance executive
leadership
• Translate business objectives into technical programme goals with clearly defined success metrics
• Set clear priorities for IT delivery and Product teams
• Chair governance forums and contribute to executive steering committees and investment councils
• Anticipate and manage strategic and operational risks, including technology, data, vendor, and regulatory risks
• Track programme benefits and ensure timely realisation of value to business units
• Drive continuous improvement across change delivery, architecture, and governance
• Leverage emerging technologies and financial services best practices to identify opportunities for the business and its
partners
