Role Summary

Aubay is seeking a passionate IT Business Analyst to join our super major client’s trading and supply department. As a Business Analyst, you will be responsible for identifying and documenting the business needs of clients and stakeholders and helping to determine feasible solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems. You will also bring subject matter expertise and domain knowledge to help organise and interpret requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders. This position will give you the opportunity to grow and become an active thought partner and solution visionary who shapes the technology demand and direction in the business community. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a trading environment and a deep understanding of commodities trading markets, with a particular focus on LNG.

Required skills and experience 

  • Strong knowledge of physical commodities trading markets, with detailed expertise in LNG 
  • Proven experience delivering projects within a trading environment using Agile methods 
  • Strong Business Analysis expertise, including requirements capture, functional/non-functional analysis, solution assessment, and risk/impact evaluation 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and translate business needs into structured requirements 
  • Knowledge of test principles across the development lifecycle and willingness to support testing during peak sprint stages 
  • Strong commercial awareness, including cost-benefit considerations when shaping solution options 
  • Experience working with data (e.g., data migration projects) and ability to use SQL effectively 
  • Experience working directly with traders and supporting trader models 
  • Strong user focus with the ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly in multicultural environments 
  • Ability to take initiative, adapt analysis approaches based on timelines and risk, and own deliverables end-to-end 

Desired skills and experience 

  • CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) or PMI-PBA certification preferred 
  • Agile certifications/trainings preferred 
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Query and Power Automate 
  • Detailed knowledge of data management best practices 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements and translate them into effective functional solutions 
  • Assess and model processes, data flows, and technology to understand the current state, identify issues, and highlight improvement opportunities 
  • Evaluate solution options, considering risks, feasibility, and business impact 
  • Work closely with software suppliers, designers, and developers to understand system capabilities and constraints 
  • Contribute to system and database design to ensure business requirements and use cases are effectively addressed 
  • Configure and document software and related processes using agreed standards and tools 
  • Create and maintain clear, structured documentation throughout the project lifecycle 
  • Define acceptance criteria and coordinate testing activities to validate that solutions meet business needs 
  • Ensure full traceability of requirements from initial business need through testing, scope changes, and final delivery 
  • Develop compelling business cases and support approval, funding, and prioritisation decisions 
  • Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control business analysis activities within agreed cost, time, and quality parameters
