Role Summary

Aubay UK is seeking an Oxford University student to join the Digital Intelligence Team at Mercuria for a 3-month paid internship based in London. This opportunity offers hands-on experience within a global energy trading and investment environment, ideal for students considering a future career in Data, Geospatial Analytics, or Digital Intelligence. Shortlisted applicants will participate in a Dragon’s Den–style selection event on 5 May 2026, pitching their project ideas live to the Head of Digital Intelligence and the Mercuria team. Successful candidates will be awarded the internship, with high performers considered for future opportunities within the business. The intern will join Mercuria’s Digital Intelligence Team, which specialises in remote sensing, satellite analytics, AI, and geospatial data science to generate proprietary insights that support global trading strategies and energy transition initiatives.

Project Focus:

The intern will be within the Digital Intelligence team, based in London, supporting a global trading and investment business. A successful candidate will find themselves with a unique opportunity to support ad‑hoc day‑to‑day business activities as well as take on a more substantial piece of work. The latter offers the potential to build something that will form a permanent part of the essential analytical toolbox used across the organisation.

The Digital Intelligence team specialise in the use of remote sensing data and geospatial data science expertise to generate unique insights. Satellite data forms one of the foundations of these analytical solutions that the team create; these data are fused with proprietary methodologies and market insights to generate differentiated solutions, enabling the monetisation of competitive advantage across a wide range of commodities and related products. The team has built a geospatial technology stack to ingest, analyse and process novel data sources, including imagery, which they use to create bespoke applications that support a self‑serve approach to leveraging these proprietary capabilities.

Aligned with the organisation’s broader purpose in connecting markets and advancing the energy transition, its nature‑focused investment platform is dedicated to the restoration and protection of nature and biodiversity, in line with global climate and conservation targets. The Digital Intelligence team are pivotal not only in supporting trading and investment activities, but also in advancing remote sensing, artificial intelligence (AI), environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling, bioacoustics and advanced satellite imagery capabilities for environmental products and energy‑transition initiatives.
