Role Summary

Aubay is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join a leading energy client’s team who will conceptualise and design data foundations and end-to-end solutions, including data platforms, to maximise value from data. The role promotes a data-driven culture across IT teams and wider business stakeholders, acting as a subject matter expert and thought partner in defining the vision and data strategy for robust, future-ready IT solutions.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong proficiency with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, SAP 

• Expertise in ELT development and automation with scalable pipeline design

• Mastery of data modelling techniques

• Skilled in data ingestion, integration, and transformation using modern tools (Data Factory, Databricks, SQL DB, 

Synapse, Glue, Airflow, Kinesis, Redshift)

• Hands-on experience with DevOps tooling: GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, SonarQube, PyTest

• Proven ability to coordinate incident, problem, and change management processes

• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Demonstrated experience in technical documentation and maintaining high-quality solution documentation

Desired skills and Experience

• Experience in project management or leading Agile/Scrum teams

• Experience with financial or operational planning tools (e.g., SAP BPC)

• Familiarity with external partner ecosystems and cross-functional delivery models

• Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers

• Experience contributing to enterprise-scale data transformation projects

• Knowledge of trading, supply, or energy domain data models

• Experience with MKDocs documentation

Role Responsibilities 

• Design and deliver scalable, cloud-based data engineering solutions

• Lead efforts to modernize data platforms, including migration of legacy systems to cloud infrastructure

• Manage data ingestion, integration, and transformation workflows while ensuring high standards of data quality, 

governance, and performance

• Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into actionable data architecture and 

solutions

• Act as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance

• Coordinate incident, problem, and change management processes, ensuring minimal disruption and timely resolution

• Present technical findings, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders

• Drive implementation efficiency across pilots and enterprise projects to maximize value delivery

• Contribute to community-building initiatives such as Centres of Excellence (CoE) and Communities of Practice (CoP)
